Dr Soni Stephen (President Elect-IAPD) is an experienced and passionate Australian trained specialist Paediatric Dentist who completed his specialist training in 1997 from the University of Adelaide and the Women's and Children's Hospital. He the worked at the Royal Children’s Hospital of Melbourne until 2000 prior to moving to Sydney. Dr Stephen was appointed as Head of Paediatric Dentistry at Sydney Dental Hospital in 2000 a role he held till 2014. He was also a visiting specialist to Sydney Children's and Canterbury Hospitals while he held this role. Dr Stephen was also part of the Cleft Lip and Craniofacial clinics and also provided extensive specialist services to regional and rural NSW. In 2011 recognising the need for specialist dental care for children, adolescents and those with special needs in the Sutherland shire and St George region of NSW, Dr Stephen created Southside Paediatric Dentistry, Miranda South of Sydney.
Dr Stephen holds the title of Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney and was heavily involved in the graduate and postgraduate training programs in NSW and other states in Australia. He is an Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) for both Specialist and General Streams. He was also on the Board of Studies in Paediatric Dentistry of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons for over 10 years. Dr Stephen was also an examiner for the Australian Dental Association (ADC) for many years. He is also a long standing member of the Australian Rotary Specialist Dental and Cleft Lip and Palate Surgical Team visiting Ho Chi Min City and Hanoi in Vietnam every year. Dr Stephen has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally.
Dr Stephen is President Elect of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) and will assume the role of President in October 2025. He is the immediate Past President of Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (ANZSPD) and has held various other roles on the Boards and Executive of national and international associations.
Dr Stephen is extremely passionate about provision of high quality gentle and tailored specialist care for children and teenagers and is especially passionate about provision of positive dental experiences to children and teenagers.
Dr Stephen loves all form of Dad jokes and encourages his patients to exchange dad jokes during each visit.
